“I greatly enjoyed Platt College, I was able to really express my creative side and make my ideas into reality. Platt College has an excellent staff that will nurture your imagination and help you achieve your goals. I would definitely recommend Platt! I currently work for one of the largest companies in the world, Viacom. I continue to excel and climb the corporate ladder because of the ideals I learned from Platt. Such ideals as drive, imagination, thinking outside of the box, and passion.”

Joanna Galaz, Medical Assistant Graduation date: October 20, 2008
I was born and raised in East Los Angeles and attended Theodore Roosevelt High School class of “2000”. I am the oldest of four children and come from a two parent home. I am now 26 years old with a 20 month old little girl which I love with all my heart. After high school I attended a different college and got certified as a Pharmacy Technician. I left that career because after three years of the same thing over and over again, I felt like I was going nowhere. When I got pregnant I decided I needed to get a career because I wanted to set a good example for my daughter so, I decided I need to go back to school. I finally found Platt College and was very happy because it was convenient for me. I went to school in the morning and spent the afternoons with my daughter. While I was attending school Karla Castellanos in the Career Services department helped me find a part time job that worked around my school schedule. It just goes to show that even though it may seem hard to go back to school, if you really want to you can do it! There will always be someone around to help you.
My externship experience was very challenging, I was able to demonstrate all of the skills that I learned at school and the staff at the clinic was very supportive. When my hours were completed, I got an offer to work full time as a medical assistant. I was told that they liked my desire and initiative to work. I now work for the Los Angeles Christian Health Centers and have been there for 4 months. I am very happy I get up every morning knowing that I can provide for my child and that I am around caring people. Christian Health Centers provides free health care to anyone who cannot afford medical insurance. It is rewarding working for a company that provides great services for many people, I feel like I am giving back to the community.
What did you like best about your classes?
The Medical Assisting program was rewarding on many levels. We had a lot of hands on training and I was able to gain so much knowledge from that. The classes were a lot of fun and I made great friends while I was there. The best thing about the classes is that you can never be bored because you’re always learning something new.
The faculty at the campus is very supportive and knowledgeable. I especially found Karla Castellanos, Career Services Director and Syrena Sokolis, Financial Aid Director to be helpful, they would answer all my questions and help me if I had a problem they would even sit in our classes to listen in and would participate in our activities. The teachers are always willing to help you out. I made many friends and had so much fun.
My overall experience at the Platt College campus in Alhambra was very good every thing was so convenient. We always had different events going on people are friendly. It’s a place where you can relax and study or work on a project or have some fun with friends.
I would especially like to thank my instructor Dr. Carlos Rocha, M.D. for always giving me that extra push and challenging me to be the best. Thank you Dr. for always believing in me, and encouraging me to further my career.“DECIDING TO GO to Platt College basically changed my life for the better. I’ve met some of the most talented students and instructors…THE MULTIMEDIA AND 3D course at Platt is great. Knowing 3D was essential to me getting into the game industry or movie industry. Learning how to model, UV map and texture 3D models correctly and efficiently comes into play in the daily courses.”
After graduating with a degree in Visual Communications, Paul took a job with Seven Studios. Last year, he moved to San Francisco to take a job with Electronic Arts as a character modeler and texture artist for My SIMS 3 for Nintendo Wii, due to release in early 2009.
