WHAT IS DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY?
Diagnostic medical sonography utilizes high frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. These images aid physicians in their diagnosis of the patient. Sonographers typically work closely with patients and radiologists in clinical health-care settings, including medical centers, medical clinics, and physicians’ offices. FAVORABLE JOB OUTLOOK The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook says that “job opportunities [for Sonographers] should be favorable, with employment expected to increase by about 19 percent through 2016—faster than the average for all occupations.” NOTE: Graduation from the program does not guarantee entry into any career. Additional requirements may apply depending on an individual’s previous education and work experience.
