About the program
You can start an exciting career in the graphic design field! With Platt College’s Graphic Design programs, you will be trained to seek entry-level employment in the design field.
This program will provide you with a solid foundation in design, color theory, typography, print production, and basic drawing. You will also use computer technology to produce design solutions for a wide variety of projects.
The Graphic Design program encompasses cutting edge multimedia education, including web page and interactive design, interface design, digital video, motion graphics, digital video editing, 3D modeling and animation.
Entry level employment opportunities for graphic designers with the right combination of training, experience and artistry will increase at a steady rate in the next decade.* Experienced and innovative graphic designers will be in demand as businesses will need to stand out in a complex world of products and services. Current knowledge and training with computer design software, such as website design and animation, will provide the best opportunity for employment.

Graphic Designers play an important role in the communication process. They use color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and different print media and layout techniques to create a visual message.
Graphic Designers create visual communications for brochures, posters, magazine covers, tickets, business cards, T-Shirts, signs, logos, advertisements, web pages, Internet banners, flash animation, web interfaces, multimedia presentations, and more.
You can get the skills and knowledge to develop layout and production design for different types of print and electronic media. With this training, you will learn to use text and graphics to create specific design solutions.
The Associate of Arts in Graphic Design Degree program will provide you with the necessary technical knowledge and creative skills to seek entry-level employment opportunities in design, advertising, illustration and other design communications.
What kind of training do I need?
Most employers will prefer graduates of formal and specific graphic design programs. A specialized training program in graphic design will combine visual communication and innovative design principles with a general education background.

What are the working conditions?
If you gain employment with a large company or advertising firm, you will find you will be expected to work typical business office hours. If you choose to find employment in a small firm or a freelance position, you will find opportunities on a contractual basis. As a consultant or self employed designer, you will work many different hours to deliver projects. In all employment opportunities as a Graphic Designer, you may be required to work extra hours to meet production schedules and deadlines.

What training will I receive?
First term students learn practical foundation skills in design, color theory, typography, print production and basic drawing. Students in intermediate and advanced terms build on their foundation skills and use computer technology to produce design solutions for a wide variety of projects. Throughout the entire program, the graphic designer’s role in the business world is emphasized. Planning, scheduling, collaboration, job search skills and portfolio development help to prepare students for their professional life.
